About Big Green

Big Green was founded by Hugo Matheson and Kimbal Musk in 2011. Big Green is a nonprofit organization that connects kids to real food through a nationwide network of Learning Gardens and food literacy programs.

Learning Gardens give students ample exposure to the life cycle of fruits and vegetables so that the next time they see them in the cafeteria, they'll be more likely to take, taste, and enjoy them.  They are the platform from which we leverage the power of real food so that every child will have the opportunity to learn, play, and grow in a healthy community.

To date, Big Green has built 78 Learning Gardens in Colorado and is reaching over 31,000 students everyday.  Since we began in Colorado, we have seen enormous growth and positive change in the schools in which we work, and that change has been contagious; the demand for Learning Gardens continues to grow.
